Diego Ares

Diego Ares studied piano with Aleksandras Jurgelionis and Aldona Dvarionaitė, and began to learn the harpsichord at age 14 under the guidance of Pilar Cancio. He later moved to The Netherlands to continue his education at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, studying also with Richard Egarr in Amsterdam. From 2004–2010, he attended the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Switzerland). He perfected his technique with the harpsichordists Carmen Schibli (a student of Eta Harich-Schneider) and Genoveva Gálvez.

Ares has given concerts in Europe, Japan, and Canada. His recordings for Columna Música, Pan Classics, Harmonia Mundi, as well as for the project All of Bach, have been received with enthusiasm by professional critics, including an "Excepcional" from Scherzo magazine, "Maestro" from Pianiste magazine, a Diapason d'or, and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. His latest recording, Bach's monumental Goldberg Variations, has been considered by several publications (including Scherzo, Qobuz, and CdClassico.com) as a substantial contribution to the extensive discography of the work.

Ares has taught harpsichord, fortepiano, and basso continuo at the University of Music in Trossingen (Germany), the Summer Academy in Gstaad (Switzerland), and the Geneva Conservatory.
