Großer Chor des Gabrieli-Gymnasiums
The Großer Chor des Gabrieli-Gymnasiums is open to all students. Typically, students transition from the youth choir to the Große Chor after the eighth grade, but there are also students who only become interested in choir singing in the upper grades. During their weekly rehearsals, these young singers learn all the important elements of vocal training through the polyphony of the mixed choir.
The choir's repertoire encompasses the entire spectrum of choral singing: In addition to sacred choral music, secular, popular, jazz, and music from other cultures are included in the program. Depending on the occasion, the choir performs a cappella or with piano accompaniment, also collaborating with the orchestra or big band of the Gabrieli Gymnasium.
Prepared through extra rehearsal trips and special rehearsal periods, concert performances take place regularly on occasions such as Christmas, summer celebrations, the Nacht der offenen Kirchen, inaugurations, farewells, and other school events.
Currently, the choir is led by Christina Schiekofer, who took over this role from Michael Beck in the 2021/22 school year.
