The members of the JOOOYO Quartet got to know each other at the Frankfurt University of Music, where until recently they studied at the Institute for Historical Performing Practices. Not only their passion for Klangrede or sounding speech on gut strings connects the four musicians, but also certain attributes of their given names, which led to the unusual name of the ensemble.
After all four had performed together in very diverse chamber music formations, they met in December 2017 to get to know Haydn’s early string quartets together. Quickly the JOOOYO Quartet was founded, and only a month later they were enthusiastically received with their performance of the B Minor Quartet from Haydn’s Op. 33 at the annual Baroque Marathon of the Frankfurt University of Music. Further concerts with quartets by Haydn and Beethoven in Frankfurt, Kronberg and Koblenz followed.
When not playing as a quartet, the individual musicians of the JOOOYO Quartet perform as guests with renowned orchestras and ensembles such as Freiburger Barockorchester, Bachakademie Stuttgart, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Concerto Köln or Il Pomo d’Oro.
