Ulmer Hof

This stately, three-winged complex dates back to a canon's court from the late Middle Ages, and it received its present high-Baroque form in 1688 by the court architect Jakob Engel. Used as a secondary school since 1842, the historic building was renovated from 1978 to 1980 by the diocesan building office of Eichstätt under the direction of architect Karljosef Schattner, and repurposed as a teaching and administrative building for the theological faculty of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.

A library was created in the former courtyard, with glazed arcades in the north wing serving as an interface between the old and the new, between history and the present. With its four-story gallery construction on the south side, the library exemplifies Schattner's "art of fugue" and his typical, light-filled yet intimate indoor-outdoor spaces.
