Bach vs. Händel – An Encounter

Their birth year connects these two icons of Baroque music: George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) and Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750).

But what else links them together? One from Halle, the other from Eisenach, they grew up in households that could hardly be more different from each other: Handel as the son of a wealthy family of doctors, Bach as the scion of a clan of over 100 musicians that at times occupied a myriad of music positions in churches and courts throughout Thuringia. One goes to Italy via Hamburg, and finally ends up in London as a favorite of the royal family, moving in the highest aristocratic circles and writing operas and great oratorios. His reputation during his lifetime was legendary worldwide! The other makes his career mainly in the field of church music, known to his contemporaries as a composer and organ virtuoso, but whose immortal fame comes only after his death, where he is celebrated by entire generations as a compositional superfather.

In Musikfest Eichstätt's opening concert, these two elemental forces collide. And no one seems more suitable to this task than the Spanish violinist Lina Tur Bonet, who, together with harpsichordist Diego Ares, unlocks the door to a Baroque revelation.
