Promenade Concerts Between Past and Present – Karljosef Schattner's Buildings Resonate on His 100th Birthday

Short concerts with introductions to architecture

Architect Karljosef Schattner (1924 –2012) bestowed upon the city of Eichstätt a surprising modernity through his unique architectural style that seamlessly integrates the old with the new.

To commemorate his 100th birthday, rooms whose origins date back to earlier times but have been infused with modern architectural elements will be featured during Musikfest Eichstätt 2024. Through several short concerts, the audience will be able to explore this architectural aspect of the historic center of Eichstätt, including in the former riding school, which was converted by the Eichstätt architect Karl Frey (Schattner's successor). Students of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main will fill these new spaces with early music, offering repeated performances of the same concert at each location. There will be ample time to move between concert venues.

Begin your promenade concerts at any of the following locations:

• "The Violin at the Heart of the Baroque," Ulmer Hof, Pater-Philipp-Jeningen-Platz 6
• "Early Consort for Viola da Gamba and Renaissance Recorders," Diocesan Museum**, Residenzplatz 7
• "Works by Eichstätt's Court Kapellmeisters," Former Riding School, Ostenstr. 1
