Family Concert – Dance and Music at the Sommerresidenz

The little court jester Franz Ludwig sneaks around the dance school and dreams of his dance debut. The young dancers give him a hard time, and he repays them with pranks. But then he gets his big chance...

Under the direction of Michaela Sigl-Weidenhiller, selected young talent from Eichstätt's children's dance group "Kidzz" will transport the audience – both young and old – to past centuries. Adorned with noble makeup and dressed in elegant historical costumes, the young dancers prefer to perform in suitable venues, turning the Baroque Holzersaal into a ballroom for Musikfest Eichstätt 2024.

Musical accompaniment will be provided by Ensemble all'improvviso, who specialize in historical improvisation and often use familiar children's songs as the basis. 19th-century melodies harmonize surprisingly well in 17th-century style – they actually sound tailor-made for gut strings and thoroughbass! Suddenly, striking analogies emerge between the works of old masters and these simple children's songs: a jack-in-the-box dances to Handel's Water Music, Charpentier's Te Deum becomes Sleeping Beauty's joyful wedding music, and the cuckoo calls out springtime messages from the notebook of Anna Magdalena Bach...

Children's songs on historical instruments? Artful thoroughbass with five-note melodies? Virtuoso Baroque improvisations and lively dances in the Sommerresidenz? Yes, please!
