Armonico Tributo Austria

The ensemble Armonico Tributo Austria was founded in 1989 by Lorenz Duftschmid and has since made valuable contributions to the development of the early music scene. The group has been honored with numerous awards and cultural prizes by international critics, and has been engaged by significant venues and agencies. Currently, three CD labels ensure the worldwide dissemination of Armonico Tributo's performances, with the ensemble directly continuing a tradition that has produced the much-acclaimed – and, over the centuries, much-changed – Viennese string sound: the high art of playing on gut strings, based on the sonorities of the old consort, further developed by Johann Heinrich Schmelzer and Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber, and flourishing from Johann Joseph Fux through to Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The driving force behind the ensemble, Lorenz Duftschmid enjoys a worldwide reputation as a master gambist of the Jordi Savall school, performing approximately 40 solo concerts per year. He is professor of viola da gamba at the University of Music in Trossingen. In 2018 he was heard at Musikfest Eichstätt in a breathtaking solo concert presented on four different viols.
