Altes Stadttheater

The Altes Stadttheater of Eichstätt, popularly known as "Asthe," was built as a granary in the years after 1545, under the rule of Bishop Moritz von Hutten. Today, it serves as a cultural, conference, and social center, but to the attentive eye, this protected landmark still reveals its history. Under the stone coat of arms on the northeast corner of the building, a Biblical inscription reads: "He that withholdeth grain, the people shall curse him; but blessings shall be upon the head of him that selleth it."
