Shell Pavilion in the Court Garden of the Sommerresidenz

When building the Sommerresidenz, Gabriel de Gabrieli laid out a terraced courtyard garden in the French style, with geometric hedge forms, fountains, and sculptures. On the southern border facing the Altmühlauen, three pavilions were created. Connected by an enclosure wall, they mirror the architecture of the palace.

Maurizio Pedetti skillfully redesigned the central pavilion into a belvedere in 1780 by opening up two sides and adding a fountain and an apsidal dome, thus creating a kind of grotto.
