Departmental Library Aula am Graben (former riding school)

The once expansive four-winged complex of the princely court stables was built from 1727 on by the court architect Gabriel de Gabrieli. From the southern and northern transepts, gable-ended and with pitched roofs, the south building served as a riding hall. Since the mid-19th century, the complex has undergone significant changes, and in 1902/04, the former "riding school" was transformed into a concert hall in neo-Baroque style with Jugendstil elements.

Used as a branch of the university library since 1981, the building was renovated though the 1990s by the diocesan building office under the direction of architect Karl Frey, transformed into a functional and elegant reading room that seamlessly combines the old and the new in an unassuming yet quality manner. Running parallel to the medieval city wall and tower, a long, three-story magazine wing was built along the northern side in a simple architectural style.
