Treasury and Diocesan Museum

Established in 1901, the Diocesan Museum of Eichstätt found a new home in 1982 in the historic spaces of the former Kipfenberg barn and the upper floors of the cloisters south of the cathedral. Years of restoration, remodeling, and interior design were conceived and implemented by the diocesan building office under the direction of architect Karljosef Schattner. Within the mixed setting of a medieval cathedral complex, an 18th-century granary, and Baroque rooms with the former chapter house, the historical structure, modern-functional fittings, and quality design come together in a manner equally exciting and homogeneous.

The architecture of the Domschatz- und Diözesanmuseum Eichstätt (Treasury and Diocesan Museum of Eichstätt), which combines sophisticated monument preservation with high-quality modern amenities, can be considered one of the architectural classics of modern times. The building and its features, as well as the rest of Schattner's work, are now under monument protection.
